I am an artist who works with recycled materials to create a fresh and dynamic outlook on old, rejected objects. Nothing goes to waste!
I have been heavily inspired by my travels to East Africa and the ingenious ways that the African people can make beautiful and purposeful new stuff from other people’s rubbish. I loved the bright colours and fun ideas and they are a lasting influence on my work.
I also work with the community to help people from all walks of life to visualize and make new objects of desire from old discarded waste. I am available to work with the community and have experience working within schools, both with mainsteam children and those with special needs as well as adults with/without special needs, minority groups and organising events in the community, both outreach and site specific.
I am involved with a mobile community arts groups that specialise in recycled arts. (colourwheels.wordpress.com) and have worked with Same Sky, leading Community arts organisation in the South East (samesky.co.uk) as a freelance artist for the past 8 years, as well as various other projects including setting up arts training and Community arts groups in deprived areas of Brighton.

Testimonials:
“Tina was recommended by Dan Lake of Same Sky to lead a series of workshops to construct a large withy and paper ‘Superhero’ as part of 2010 hollingbury Park Avenue Street Party Project.
Tina was the ideal candidate for this as she is experienced and skilful with this type of work.
She communicated well with the organisers, both in the planning stages and throughout the project, and also with the children in the workshops. The whole venture was a well-managed collaboration between all parties involved.
The business angle was managed efficiently and transparantly, materials were efficiently resourced and time management was excellent.
I would recommend Tina and would invite her again to work with us.”

Colourwheels have run two extensive projects in the school over the last two years. Both projects have been a major success and have greatly enriched the art experience of the children and opened their minds, in a truly imaginative way, to the themes/ ideas involved.
In the last project they explored the theme of the beach with the children and created a magical atmosphere in the hall, where the children were able to use a wide range of media to express their ideas. The quality of art was of a very high standard.
In the second project they worked with the children on ideas inspired by our Edible Forest Garden. They used a wide range of recycled materials to produce sculpture, prints, paper and textile pieces. They amazed me with their calm but highly organised approach to running the workshops. They managed to run high quality workshops for over 600 children over a two week period. The children and staff loved the experiences and were extremely positive in their evaluations, the only ‘negative’ being they would have liked more!
Colourwheels worked throughout in a very commited manner and actively sort to involve the school in the whole planning process to requests from the staff/ children or the demands of the curriculum.
I have been very impressed.
I would highly recommend the group. We intend using them again soon.
