St. Lukes edible garden project January 9, 2011

Colourwheels were invited back to St.Lukes Primary School to help the pupils celebrate the new edible forest garden. We carried out workshops with the entire school, which included ephemeral art, natural dyeing, papermaking, sculptures made out of recycled materials, observational drawing and printing. The project bought life to the garden while the plants were still young and filled the space with colour and inspiration untill the planting had time to establish itself. The children, teachers and parents all loved the artwork and we have been invited back again for a third year running.

Testimonial

Colourwheels have run two extensive projects in the school over the last two years. Both projects have been a major success and have greatly enriched the art experience of the children and opened their minds, in a truly imaginative way, to the themes/ ideas involved.

In the last project they explored the theme of the beach with the children and created a magical atmosphere in the hall, where the children were able to use a wide range of media to express their ideas. The quality of art was of a very high standard.

In the second project they worked with the children on ideas inspired by our Edible Forest Garden. They used a wide range of recycled materials to produce sculpture, prints, paper and textile pieces. They amazed me with their calm but highly organised approach to running the workshops. They managed to run high quality workshops for over 600 children over a two week period. The children and staff loved the experiences and were extremely positive in their evaluations, the only ‘negative’ being they would have liked more!

Colourwheels worked throughout in a very commited manner and actively sort to involve the school in the whole planning process to requests from the staff/ children or the demands of the curriculum.

I have been very impressed.

I would highly recommend the group. We intend using them again soon.
